Yonaguni Island offers view of Taiwan on three consecutive days
August 27, 2011 Rie Higashihama, correspondent of the Ryukyu Shimpo
Yonaguni Island offered views of Taiwan for several hours each day from August 17 to 19.
The range of 3700-meter high mountains stretching across the Yilan and Hualien counties in the eastern part of Taiwan was visible from Yonaguni Island.
It is said that the weather on the island always deteriorates within three or four days after such views of Taiwan being possible, so one of the local residents said, “I am now a bit worried about what will happen with the weather.”
It is very rare for the weather to stay clear with no rain and for views of Taiwan to be possible for three consecutive days. As of August 21, the Okinawa Meteorological Observatory was forecasting that the weather would not deteriorate.
